Elisha Calkin, magistrate and merchant, also had a store on the wharf below his house. He raised his house on May 31, 1794. “Raising” was the procedure of laying out the entire framework on the ground, and then raising the sides together in consecutive order. This home has the classic Georgian five windows over the four, with a central doorway. The current owner uncovered a well under the floor of the barn which connects to the house. After ensuring the water’s purity the owners had it piped into their kitchen where the family uses it daily.
