Seniors’ Safety

The Seniors’ Safety Coordinator plays a crucial role in addressing the safety and security concerns of seniors in Queens County by providing safety and security information on an individual and group basis to seniors. This role is vital in reducing risks and fostering a culture of safety among the Municipality’s senior population.

Additionally, the efforts in this role directly impact on the wellbeing of the community as a whole, by helping senior residents to feel more secure in their own homes, increasing partnerships with seniors’ service providers and increasing the amount of safety/security information provided to seniors.

Some of the duties of the Seniors’ Safety Coordinator include:

  • Partner closely with RCMP, Queens Care Society, Seniors’ Community Health Team, Adult Protection, Victorian Order of Nurses and other community organizations
  • Promote education and awareness about elder abuse, crime prevention, legal matters, health and safety issues
  • Enhance communications between seniors and police
  • Provide information, referral services and community services available to seniors
  • Engage in direct contact with seniors which will involve in-home visits at the seniors’ convenience
  • Educate the senior population on current known scams, reaffirming safety tips, crime prevention methods, fraud awareness, home security, etc.
  • Assist with development and implementation of community projects that enhance Queens County residents’ lives
  • Work with local authorities in delivering programs designed to prevent elder abuse and other crimes against seniors
