Public Update: Update: Status of Milton Centennial Pool
May 1, 2024: The Milton Centennial Pool suffered significant damage in the unprecedented rainfall and flash flooding events in July 2023. As a result, the pool was closed to assess the damage and make repairs.
Unfortunately, repair work was not able to be completed in the Fall of 2023 and when staff uncovered the pool in April 2024, additional damage had occurred over the winter months. At the April 16, 2024 Special Council Meeting the condition of the Milton Centennial Pool was discussed with Council. Staff were directed to engage industry experts to evaluate what repairs the 57-year-old pool would require. Staff returned during the April 29, 2024 Special Council Meeting to advise that the estimate received from experts to repair and reopen the pool was anticipated to be between $100,000 to $150,000, and take at least 12 weeks to complete.
As a result, the Milton Centennial Pool will not open in 2024. Municipal staff will work on options for Council’s consideration about the future of this pool. Staff will also continue to take the required steps for the new large heated outdoor pool, proposed to be constructed by Queens Place Emera Centre.
North Queens Aquatic Centre is expected to continue regular operations in 2024 and staff are exploring options for expanding opportunities to serve residents.
