The Region of Queens Municipality is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated professional to join our team as a Safety Coordinator.
The Safety Coordinator coordinates Region of Queens Municipality’s Safety Management System by supporting safety programs, legislative compliance, training safety advice, and practical solutions that help keep employees safe. As a Safety Coordinator, you will work closely with manager, supervisors, employees, Human Resources, and the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee to identify workplace hazards, investigate incidents, and support continuous improvement of Region of Queens Municipality’s safety program.
Additionally, the position also supports emergency management planning, preparedness activities, training, exercises, and municipal response as required.
About You
- You have in-depth knowledge of the Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, and knowledge of related legislation, standards and best practices
- You have strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- You have strong written and verbal communication skills, including developing reports, procedures, training and educational materials
- You have knowledge of safety management systems, hazard identification, risk assessment, and investigation principles as well as basic knowledge of emergency management principles
Qualifications
- A diploma or degree in a related field (e.g. Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Business Administration, etc.)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in workplace safety, health and safety, emergency management, or a related field
- Experience supporting workplace inspections, incident investigations, hazard assessments, and delivering safety training
- Valid NS Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle for work-related travel

Compensation:
The salary for this position ranges from $61,667.00 and $81,555.00 annually, commensurate with experience. A full job description is available here.
