Region of Queens Municipality is currently seeking applications from an energetic, detail-oriented and dynamic individual interested in joining our team as a Building / Fire Official.

Location: Liverpool, Queens County, Nova Scotia.

Primary Responsibilities of the Building / Fire Official:

  • Examine building plans when submitted for compliance with the Nova Scotia Building Code, Municipal Building Bylaw and Land Use Bylaw.
  • Issue building permits, demolition permits, mobile home permits, occupancy permits and electrical hookup permits as appropriate.
  • Conduct on-site inspections as required by the Building Bylaw and Regulations as requested by the owner or contractor.
  • On a daily basis, provide information and assistance to contractors, developers, architects, solicitors and the general public regarding all aspects of construction under the Building Code Act.
  • Carry out fire inspections as required by the Fire Safety Act.

The Ideal Candidate will have:

• A Diploma as a Qualified Building Official in Nova Scotia – Level 1 or Level 2.
• A minimum of 3 years experience in a municipal building inspection environment.
• A thorough knowledge of the National Building Code, Plumbing Code and Fire Code as well as other relevant provincial legislation and regulations relating to building and fire inspection.
• A member in good standing of the Nova Scotia Building Officials Association.
• Eligibility for membership in the Fire Inspectors Association of Nova Scotia.
• Excellent customer service and public relations skills.
• Excellent written and communication skills.
• A valid driver’s license.

The Municipality will consider applicants with established education and experience in the construction trades, who would be willing to enroll in the Nova Scotia Building Code Training and Certification Boards Intern Program and work toward becoming a Qualified Level I Building Official.

Work expectations:

  1. Successful candidate must be flexible and able to work weekdays, weekends, nights & holidays on an as-needed basis.
  2. Assist with ice maintenance and installation.

  4. Set-up and dismantle for events, meetings & rentals.

Hillsview Acres Home for Special Care is currently seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team. Up to date Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector Checks are required.

The Licensed Practical Nurse will provide care for residents at Hillsview Acres Home for Special Care, including, but not limited to; medication administration, health assessment, leadership duties, care planning and intervention, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, personal care, assistance with activities of daily living, assistance with meals, mobilization, support, documentation and all other duties as outlined in the LPN job description.

Qualifications:
1. Graduate of a recognized LPN program
2. Maintains ongoing active practicing licensure with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing
3. Experience and interest working with the elderly and commitment to resident centred care philosophy.
4. Physically able to perform the duties of the position.
5. Ability to do shift work including 12, 8, and 4 hour shifts on days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
6. Alzheimer’s and Related Dementia Care course
7. Current first aid and CPR or willingness to obtain.
8. Foot care course an asset.
9. Excellent communication skills.
10. Ability and confidence to take a leadership role.
11. Demonstrated competency using computers including Microsoft office.
12. Regular attendance in current and previous employment.
