Region of Queens Municipality is currently seeking submissions of interest from highly organized, detail-oriented and dynamic individuals to take the lead on a short-term, contracted research project.

Wayfinding is the signage and directional tools that help you identify where you are, find what you are looking for and confirm you have arrived at your destination. Region of Queens Municipality undertook a Wayfinding Strategy in February 2021 as part of a marketing campaign. As part of the implementation of the Wayfinding Strategy, Region of Queens Municipality has allocated funds in the 2022-2023 budget to conduct research to identify culturally significant areas in Queens County to assign or reassign culturally and linguistically appropriate names to these areas.

As part of this strategy, Region of Queens is seeking submissions of interest from individuals who have the experience and expertise to undertake this research project. The project would include conducting primary and secondary research including, but not exclusive to, jurisdictional scans, review of archival information, consultation with museums, working with the Diversity and Inclusion Action Team, engaging and consulting with Indigenous organizations and governments, engaging and consulting with organizations that represent or work on the behalf of marginalized or historically excluded groups.

The final report of this research would be a collection of identified culturally and historically significant places in Queens County and recommended names for those areas. A description of each area is required with research that supports its inclusion as culturally significant and the recommended name. Throughout the process, the researcher would submit a work plan and regular updates to the Director of Economic Development.

The timeline for completion of this project is March 31, 2023.

Please send your submission of interest on or before February 10, 2023 to:
