Who needs a Building Permit? Anyone who wants to construct, erect, alter, replace, relocate, or add to any structure* and make any change or alteration to the use made of structures in the Region of Queens Municipality as outlined in the Nova Scotia Building Code Regulations.
*ALL structures require a Development Permit.
Depending on the nature of your building project, there may be exemptions from the building permit approval process. For further information or clarification, please contact the Municipal Building Officials.
BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR BUILDING PERMIT APPLICATION, Applicants please ensure to:
- Complete ALL the required information, the Building Offical WILL NOT fill in missing information and the application will be returned to the applicant, resulting in delays
- Read ALL the pages in the application
- Attach any plans and insulation details
- ALL fees are paid and marked with the receipt number on the application
DO NOT START ANY WORK UNTIL YOU HAVE RECEIVED AND POSTED THE BUILDING PERMIT.
You will be notified when the building permit can be picked up.

Region of Queens Municipality will be offering online building and development permits through a shared regional e-permit portal.
The District of Lunenburg, Region of Queens Municipality, and the Towns of Bridgewater and Lunenburg, have partnered to offer a single online system for building, development, and subdivision permits.
With one account, you can apply for permits, upload documents or photos, and track your application in real time — all from your computer or mobile device.
