2026-2027 Tax Bills Are on the Way
The 2026-2027 Operating Budget was approved by Council on April 28, 2026, setting the tax rate for the year and marking the fifth year in a row there is no increase to the base tax rate. With budget approved and the tax rate set, residents can expect to receive their tax bills shortly.
WHEN WILL MY BILL ARRIVE?
Tax bills have been printed, and international and US bills were sent by mail on Friday, May 8, 2026. This week, tax bills will be mailed to Queens County property owners in the local area and all across Canada. Property owners who have signed up for e-billing will have access to their tax bill in their email now.
Region of Queens issues approximately 15,000 tax invoices to all property owners once a year. Unlike many municipalities in Nova Scotia, Region of Queens tax rates include services such as street lighting, garbage collection, and paving.
WHEN ARE MY TAXES DUE?
Tax bills are dated June 1, 2026, and payments received prior to July 1, 2026, will have no interest charges applied.

HOW ARE MY TAXES CALCULATED?
Property taxes in the Region of Queens are calculated by applying the applicable tax rate to every $100 in assessed property value. For example, if your residential property is assessed at $200,000, and your tax rate in District 1 – 12 is $1.07 per $100 assessed value, the total tax due is $2,140. If your residential property is in tax District 13, the rate is $1.915, so a property valued at $200,000 would have a tax bill of $3,830. Some tax districts have area rates, and some have hydrant rates that are dependent on how close they are to fire hydrants.
The assessed value of a property is determined by an independent organization, the Property Valuation Services Corporation, a company that performs the valuation services for all properties in Nova Scotia. HST is not applicable on property taxes.
IS THERE ANY SUPPORT FOR LOW-INCOME TAX PAYERS?
An exemption amount of no more than $550.00 from taxation on a residential property tax bill was approved by Council for the taxation year April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027. Requests for the 2026/2027 fiscal year must be received prior to February 28, 2027. Submission for a tax exemption must be accompanied by a copy of the applicants’ Income Tax Notice of Assessment for 2025.
