August 5, 2024: Are you thinking about offering for a seat on Region of Queens Council in the upcoming Municipal election? Region of Queens Municipality will host an information session for members of the public who may be considering for the position of mayor or as a Councillor in the Municipal Election this fall.

The session will briefly explain the election process from now until after the election, including the nomination process, candidate requirements, electoral boundaries, position requirements (including time requirements and expectations for Council members as well as compensation), and answer any questions you may have.

WHEN: Wednesday, August 21, 2024, 6:30 p.m.
WHERE: Queens Place Emera Centre, Liverpool (Community Room)

July 24, 2024: With the 2024 Municipal election less than 3 months away, its important to know some important dates – whether you are considering being a candidate or if you are a voter!

Key Dates for Quick Reference
* March 9, 2024:   Residency required to qualify as candidate in Queens County
* September 10, 2024: Nomination Day ~ Your nomination paperwork can be filed by appointment with the Returning Officer in the seven business days prior to Nomination Day (Aug. 29 & 30, and Sept. 3, 4, 5, 6, & 9, 2024)  
* October 12, 2024: First Advance Poll
* October 15, 2024:     Second Advance Poll
* October 19, 2024:     Election Day

The 2024 Election will be a Hybrid Model – voters will be able to vote electronically, by phone or using traditional paper ballots.

July 24, 2024: October 19, 2024 is the date of the 2024 Municipal Election, held in all Municipal units across Nova Scotia. If you are considering offering as a Councillor or as Mayor, please note that the Candidates packages are now available to pick up! They are available at the Municipal Administration Building, 249 White Point Rd., Liverpool, during office hours – Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

July 24, 2024: Are you considering offering in the 2024 Municipal election as a Councillor or Mayor for Region of Queens Municipality? If so, the following is information about the qualifications needed to run for Council will be of interest to you!

In order to run for Council (Mayor or Councillor) you must meet all the following criteria:
• Be at least 18 years of age at the time of nomination
• Be a Canadian citizen
• Be ordinarily resident in the Municipality for 6 months preceding nomination day (by March 9, 2024), and continue to so reside
• Must ensure that all municipal charges that are taxes and liens that are due have been fully paid as of Nomination Day (September 10, 2024). A certificate to this effect must be signed by a municipal official who is qualified to do so

A nomination deposit of $200 is required. Nominations are accepted on August 29, 30 and September 3, 4, 5, 6 9 & 10, 2024.

You do not need to reside in the polling district of the municipality in which you wish to seek election, as long as you meet the residency requirement of six months in Queens County.
