  • NOTICE OF SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING

    Notice is hereby given that a Special Meeting of Council has been scheduled as follows:

    Date: Tuesday, March 3, 2026
    Time: 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
    Location: Council Chamber at the Municipal Administration Building, located at 249 White Point Road, Liverpool, NS. The meeting will also be livestreamed on the Region of Queens Municipality’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

    Purpose of the Special Meeting

    The purpose of this Special Meeting is to:

    • Introduce the Draft 2026–2027 Operating Budget
    • Introduce the Draft 2026–2027 Water Utility Operating Budget
    • Review Budget Questions & Answers

    No additional business will be considered at this Special Meeting.

    Public Access

    This meeting is open to the public in accordance with the Municipal Government Act.

    The draft budgets will be available on the Municipality’s website prior to the meeting. They will be posted on Friday, February 27, 2026, as part of the Special Council Agenda Package here:

  • Statement for Mayor Christian: Decision by NS Aquaculture Review board

    On behalf of the RQM I want to express how deeply disappointed we are in the decision of the Nova Scotia Aquaculture Review Board (NSARB) to approve Kelly Cove Salmon Ltd.’s application to expand the existing salmon farm by Coffin Island and Beach Meadows Beach from the current 14 pens to 20. The RQM stood by our community as an intervenor in opposition to this expansion. I want to express my gratitude for our residents who contributed their time, energy and voices by providing oral statements, submitting testimony and appearing as witnesses at this hearing.

  • Area Rate Voting Results

    (Originally issued at 8:23 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026. Updated at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2026.)

    The results of the Area Rate votes will now be presented to Council in a staff report at the Regular Council Meeting on March 24, 2026, which begins at 5:30 pm. The public is welcome to attend this meeting in the Chamber gallery at the Municipal Administration Building at 249 White Point, Liverpool. It will also be livestreamed on our Facebook Page and YouTube channel. Council will consider the results of these votes and determine whether to approve the requested Area Rates at that time.

    Area Rate Voting Results, Assessment Districts 5 & 6

    Brooklyn Cemetery Committee

    On February 13, 2026, eligible voters in Assessment Districts 5 and 6 were given an opportunity to vote on a request from Brooklyn Cemetery Committee to levy a 1.5 cent per $100 of assessment on all assessment accounts in Assessment Districts 5 and 6 for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. The vote is not binding.

    The results of the vote are as follows:

    YES – 72

    NO – 14

    Rejected and Spoiled Ballots – 0

    Total Voters Casting a Ballot – 86

    Brooklyn Recreation Committee

    On February 13, 2026, eligible voters in Assessment Districts 5 and 6 were given an opportunity to vote on a request from Brooklyn Recreation Committee to levy a 4 cent per $100 of assessment on all assessment accounts in Assessment Districts 5 and 6 for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. The vote is not binding.

    The results of the vote are as follows:

    YES – 74

    NO – 12

    Rejected and Spoiled Ballots – 0

    Total Voters Casting a Ballot – 86

  • NOTICE OF INTENT TO CONSIDER SECOND READING – BYLAW NO. 11 – PUBLIC SEWER SYSTEMS

    TAKE NOTICE THAT Council of Region of Queens Municipality will consider second reading of Bylaw No. 11 – Public Sewer Systems, at the Regular Council Meeting on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in Council Chamber, 249 White Point Road, Liverpool, NS.

    OBJECT OF THE BYLAW:  The object of this Bylaw is to regulate the use of the municipal sewerage system, including connections, permitted discharges, and user responsibilities, in order to protect municipal infrastructure, public health, and the environment, and to repeal and replace the existing Sewer Bylaw adopted in 2007.

    A copy of the proposed bylaw may be inspected at the Municipal Administration Building, located at 249 White Point Road, Liverpool, NS, during the regular office hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on the Municipal website at www.regionofqueens.com.

  • Message of Support for the people of Tumbler Ridge from Mayor Christian

    On behalf of the Region of Queens Municipality, I want to express our community’s profound sorrow and unwavering support for the people of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, following yesterday’s tragic events.

    To the grieving families, the shaken residents, and the first responders who answered the call, please know that you are in our thoughts.

    While we are on the other side of the country, we very much recognize the spirit of a community like Tumbler Ridge – we know that in small communities where people truly look out for one another, a tragedy like this leaves a mark on the heart of every single resident.

    All of Queens County sends strength and stands in solidarity with the entire Tumbler Ridge community as you face the difficult days ahead.

  • Facility Closures Due to Winter Storm

    February 11, 2026, 12: 15 p.m.:  Queens Place Emera Centre and Region of Queens Municipality’s Administration Office will close at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 11, due to worsening conditions from the winter storm. Administration Building staff will be working from home for the remainder of the business day. 

  • PUBLIC UPDATE – Brooklyn Area Rate Public Meeting & Vote

    Due to deteriorating weather conditions, the Public Meeting for the Brooklyn Area Rate will be postponed until Thursday, February 12, 2026. There is no change to the voting date on February 13, 2026.

    1. Brooklyn Recreation Committee: Renewal of area rate at 4¢ per $100 of assessment.
    2. Brooklyn Cemetery Committee: Renewal of area rate at 1.5¢ per $100 of assessment.

    PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING

    • You must be an owner of taxable property within Tax District 5 or 6 (Brooklyn) and be eligible to vote in Municipal Elections.
    • Please bring photo ID.
    • No proxy voting is allowed.

    PLEASE NOTE: Tax Districts are not the same as Electoral Districts in Region of Queens Municipality. These Area Rates are for Tax Districts 5 & 6 (Brooklyn) only. If you do not see these Area Rates on your tax bill, this notice does not apply to you.

    TAKE NOTICE THAT Council for Region of Queens Municipality will consider second reading of Bylaw No. 14 – Tax Exemptions, at the Regular Council Meeting on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, 249 White Point Road, Liverpool, NS.

    OBJECT OF THE BYLAW:  A bylaw to grant, regulate, and annually review municipal property tax exemptions for specified non-profit organizations and institutions within the Region of Queens Municipality.

  • Notice: Hillsview Acres has Reopened Following Temporary Closure

    UPDATE: Hillsview Acres Home for Special Care Reopened – the Covid Outbreak has been Cleared

    January 21, 2026: Please note that the Hillsview Acres Home for Special Care has been declared officially out of the outbreak of January 2, 2026. Visitors are welcome once again.

    As always, regular hand washing and sanitizing is encouraged and if anyone is feeling unwell or displaying flu- like symptoms, please consider delaying your visit.

    Notice: Temporary Closure of Hillsview Acres to Non-Essential Visitors

    January 2, 2026: Following confirmation today from Nova Scotia Public Health/Department of Health, Hillsview Acres meets the criteria for a confirmed COVID outbreak.

    The home will be closed to non-essential visitors and masking will be enforced. As always, good hand hygiene practices of washing hands with soap and water and frequent sanitizing are encouraged. Any changes to this status will be relayed on social media and families will be contacted.

  • NOTICE OF PASSING – BYLAW No. 28

    IN THE MATTER OF the Municipal Government Act, being Chapter 18 of the Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1998.

    TAKE NOTICE THAT on January 13, 2026, Council of the Region of Queens Municipality adopted Bylaw No. 28 – Designation of Road Trails on Municipal Roadways, a bylaw respecting the designation of approved OHV and ATV road trails within the Municipality.

    A copy of the Bylaw may be inspected at the Municipal Administration Building, 249 White Point Road, Liverpool, during regular office hours, or viewed on the Municipality’s website at www.regionofqueens.com.

  • UPDATE: Warming Centres Have Now Closed

    Power has been restored to all but a few properties in Queens, and the warming centres have closed.
    Thank you to all the volunteers and organizations throughout the community who opened their doors to their neighbours during the power outage January 18 – 21, 2026.

    ***************************************************************************
    While Nova Scotia Power crews work to restore power to who have no electricity following the storm, there are a number of locations that people can access in the community to warm up and charge devices. The list below will be updated as more locations are added.
    ** We will do our best to ensure the list has current information, but sometimes things change with little notice. Please check with the organization operating the centre you are going to to ensure it is open before you head out. Most locations listed below have posted this information on their Facebook pages.

    Queens Place Emera Centre, 50 Queens Place Drive, Liverpool – Following the winter storm, Queens Place Emera Centre is open for regular hours of operation (Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 9 p.m.). As always, the public is welcome to come in, warm up, charge their phones and small electronic devices, hang out, or bring a laptop and do work in the space using the guest wifi on site. Those without power are also welcome to have a hot showerplease contact the Front Desk at 902-354-4422 to book a time to ensure there is availability when you arrive. Bring your own toiletries and towel, and check in at the front desk for access to the shower facilities.

    Updated, Thursday, January 22, 2026, 9:00 a.m. (please note – most of the locations are run by community volunteers, and open hours are based on organizations’ abilities to have people on site):
    Coastal Queens Place, 8100 Highway 3, Port Mouton – Coastal Queens Place is open for regular hours of operation (11 am – 4 pm) for those who would like to warm up and charge phones and small electronic devices.

    Greenfield & District Volunteer Fire Fighters Association, Joudrey Parnell Road, GreenfieldPower has been restored in this are, and the warming centre closed – Thursday, January 22. Greenfield & District Firehall was open from 12 noon until 3 pm, and again at 6 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2026 to warm up, charge phones and small devices, use wifi, have a coffee and homemade soup.

    Liverpool Fire Fighters Association, 520 Main Street, LiverpoolPower has been restored in this are, and the warming centre closed – Wednesday, January 21. Liverpool Fire Fighters Association’s Fire Hall was open starting at 9:00 am Tuesday, January 20 for charging Phones and small electronic devices, or get warm.

    Mill Village and District Fire Department, 39 Medway River Road, Mill Village – Power has been restored in this are, and the warming centre closed – Thursday, January 22. Mill Village & District Fire Department’s Fire Hall was open for charging phones and small electronic devices, warming up, and for a tea, coffee & juice from 11am to 2 pm Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

    North Queens Fire Association Hall, 9793 Highway 8, Caledonia
    Power has been restored in this are, and the warming centre closed – Thursday, January 22. North Queens Fire Association’s Fire Hall was open on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 starting at 9 a.m. as a warming site for the public to charge phones and small electronic devices and warm coffee during the power outage, and remained open until 10 p.m. the evening of January 20, 2026.

    Port Medway Fire Department, – 66 Long Cove Road, Port MedwayPower has been restored in this are, and the warming centre closed – Thursday, January 22. Port Medway Fire Hall was open on Wednesday, January 21 at 8 a.m. until power was restored Wednesday afternoon. Charge up your devices, warm up, get on the internet and be social with others in the community, and play a game of cards or two.
    Port Medway Fire Department’s Fire Hall was open all day Tuesday, January 20, 2026, and plan to remain open until power is restored.

    Royal Canadian Legion, Mersey Branch #038, 43 Henry Hensey Drive, Liverpool – The Legion in Liverpool will be open during its regular hours for people to warm up, socialize, and charge phones and small electronic devices.

    West Queens Recreation Centre, 70 Riverhead Road, Port Mouton – Power has been restored in the area and the warming centre has CLOSED as of Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Please note that Coastal Queens Place is open during regular hours (see their information in the list above).
    West Queens Recreation Centre was open on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 for showers, water, charging phone and small electronic devices, and comfort for anyone in the area that needs it. The small kitchen can be used to warm up personal food if necessary. Please bring your own toiletries if having a shower.

  • PLANNING ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBER – DISTRICT 7

    The Region of Queens Municipality is seeking expressions of interest from members of the public who are interested in serving on the Planning Advisory Committee.  There is currently a vacancy for a representative Electoral District 7:

    ALL that district comprising Whiteburne Mines, Westfield, South Brookfield, Pleasant River, Northfield, West Caledonia, Tobeatic Wilderness Area, North Brookfield, New Grafton, Lake Rossignol, Kempt, Kejimkujik National Park of Canada, Hibernia, Harmony Mills, Caledonia, and Albany New.

    The purpose of the Planning Advisory Committee is to act in an advisory capacity to Council on such matters as:

    • Review and make recommendations on any proposed amendment to the Region’s Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use Bylaw;
    • Review and make recommendations on all applications for development agreements; and
    • Review and make recommendations on land use planning matters in general.
