You’re invited: Swearing-In Ceremony for Newly elected Council

Residents of Queens County are Cordially Invited to Attend the Swearing-In Ceremony of the Mayor and Councillors for Region of Queens Municipality.

Members of the 8th Council of Region of Queens Municipality will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 in Council Chamber, Region of Queens Administration Building, 249 White Point Road, Liverpool, NS. The Ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. Please note, there is limited seating available. Please RSVP by email to reserve a seat; requests for seating are on a first received basis. Email to cjoudry@regionofqueens.com.

The ceremony will be live-streamed on Region of Queens Municipality’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.

Voter Statistics: Final Summary of Voter Participation

Following are the final summaries of voter participation in the 2024 Region of Queens Municipality’s Election. Please note, there is a break down for Web and Phone votes included.

Kudos to residents for taking part in the election through casting their votes! This election saw 51.4% of eligible votes taking part, which is a great turnout!

Election Night Results

Municipal Election 2024 is just a few short days away, and preparations are being made for announcing poll results on Saturday evening, October 19.

We are pleased to be able to offer options for watching the results to the public, candidates and media results as poll results are reported.

Shortly after the polls close on October 19 at 7 p.m., Region of Queens Municipality will livestream the unofficial results on the screens in Council Chamber, as well as on the Municipality’s YouTube channel and Facebook page, updated as poll results are received.

Electronic Voting has Started, and First Advance Poll

Avoid the rush of election day. Vote at Advance Polls!

Today, October 12, is the first Advance Poll and also the start of Electronice Voting.

An elector may vote by traditional paper ballot at one of the Advance Polls if they expect to be unable to vote on ordinary polling day (Saturday, October 19, 2024). Voters in all Districts of Region of Queens Municipality may vote at any Advance Poll.

Saturday, October 12, 2024 – First Advance Poll
Voters in Districts 1-7 may vote in person at the polling station at North Queens Community School, Caledonia from 12 noon – 8 pm. The 2nd Advance Poll is Tuesday, October 15, 12 noon to 8 pm at Queens Place Emera Centre, Liverpool

Electronic voting (voting online or by phone) is an added convenience for voters. Vote at at a time that suits you, anytime between 12 noon Saturday, October 12 and 7:00 pm Saturday, October 19, Election Day. For the instructions in your Voter Information Letter.

Are you wondering when you can vote in the 2024 Municipal Election? You have lots of options!

** If voting electronically (online or by phone):
Electronic advance polling – from 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 12 until 7:00 pm on Saturday, October 19, Election Day.

**If voting by paper ballot in person at polling stations:
1st Advance Poll – Saturday, October 12 – 12 noon – 8:00 pm,
North Queens Community School
2nd Advance Poll – Tuesday, October 15 – 12 noon – 8 pm,
Queens Place Emera Centre
Election Day – Saturday, October 19 – 8:00 am – 7 pm, at polling stations

Information about ways you can vote electronically, and the location of your polling station for in person voting by paper ballot can be found on your Voter Information Letter. If you have not received this letter, please contact the Election Office contact Returning Officer Ian Kent at 902-646-1033 or ikent@regionofqueens.com .

Voter Instruction letters are in the Mail

Voter Instruction Letters containing information about methods of voting in the upcoming Municipal election were received by Canada Post late last week, and will begin arriving in mailboxes over the coming days.

The letter contains important information, including the PIN to use for online or telephone voting. Region of Queens Municipality’s voters have several options to choose from in which method they use to cast their vote, as the election here is using a hybrid model. You can vote online or by telephone throughout the Advance Polling period and on Election Day, or by using traditional paper ballots at the advanced polls or on Election Day.

If you have not received your letter by October 9, please contact the Elections office. Revisions to the List of Electors will continue throughout the Election period.

The Elections office is open 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday (excluding holidays) by chance or appointment and is located at the Municipal Administration Building, 249 White Point Road, Liverpool. Are you on the List of Electors for the Municipal Election on October 19, 2024?

If you are new resident of Queens County, or have turned 18 since the 2021 Provincial Election, you might not be on the list of those eligible to vote.

The Municipal Election will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024.  Electors may vote between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the locations listed below on ordinary polling day if casting a paper ballot, or vote electronically by telephone or online during the same hours.

Advance polls for paper ballots to be cast will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, and Tuesday, October 15, 2024, between the hours of 12:00 noon and 8:00 p.m.  Any elector who expects to be unable to vote on ordinary polling day may vote at the Advance poll.  Proxy votes are not accepted at the Advance poll. Electronic advance polling by telephone or online will be available from 12:00 noon on Saturday October 12, 2024, until 7:00 pm on Saturday October 19, 2024 inclusive.

Descriptions of the polling districts and divisions are available at the Municipal office and may be inspected during regular office hours. With the 2024 Municipal election less than 3 months away, its important to know some important dates – whether you are considering being a candidate or if you are a voter!

Key Dates for Quick Reference

  • March 9, 2024: Residency required to qualify as candidate in Queens County
  • September 10, 2024: Nomination Day ~ Your nomination paperwork can be filed by appointment with the Returning Officer in the seven business days prior to Nomination Day (Aug. 29 & 30, and Sept. 3, 4, 5, 6, & 9, 2024)  
  • October 12, 2024: First Advance Poll
  • October 15, 2024: Second Advance Poll
  • October 19, 2024: Election Day

The 2024 Election will be a Hybrid Model – voters will be able to vote electronically, by phone, or using traditional paper ballots.
