Public Notice: Legion Street Pedestrian Upgrades

issued on Monday, August 17, 2026: A project to increase pedestrian safety will be beginning soon at the corner of Legion and Main Street, Liverpool, and the construction area has been staged for the upcoming work with fencing and concrete barricades. The Legion Street Pedestrian Upgrades project will continue through to early September, weather and site conditions permitting.
This project is intended to improve pedestrian safety, accessibility, and comfort by upgrading a well-travelled pedestrian crossing. The planned work includes the installation of a curb extension to shorten the crossing distance and improve sightlines, as well as Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons, similar to the pedestrian crossing further down Main Street near the Trestle Trail.
The project also includes accessibility enhancements such as Tactile Walking Surface Indicators, benches, curb and sidewalk upgrades, asphalt repair, line repainting, and related landscaping.
During construction, several parking stalls along Main Street near Legion Street will be unavailable for the duration of the project. Parking stalls along Legion Street will also be unavailable for a brief period (approximately two days) to allow for the installation of additional stormwater infrastructure.
The Municipality will make every reasonable effort to minimize disruption wherever possible. During the construction, a short section of sidewalk in the work area will be closed, and pedestrians will be encouraged to use the sidewalk on the southern side of Main Street (the side next to the Old Burial Ground) and the pedestrian crossings at both Old Bridge Street and McLeod Street.
Please use caution when travelling through the area, follow posted signage, and respect instructions from crews on site.
