Volunteer Opportunity: Apply to be the Minister of Justice’s Appointed Member of Queens’ Police Advisory Board

April 11, 2025: Are you looking for a meaningful may to make a difference in the community? The Province of Nova Scotia is seeking one volunteer as the Minister of Justice’s appointed member on the Region of Queens Municipality’s Police Advisory Board (PAB).

Among the qualifications to be selected for a PAB are:

  • Residence in the municipality served by the board; knowledge of community issues; of a good character; willingness to make a commitment of time and effort to carry out advisory board responsibilities.
  • Must take an oath of Office or affirmation.
  • Must consent to criminal and background checks. A record of conviction will not necessarily result in ineligibility, taking all circumstances into account.
  • Applicants should have experience with, or a willingness to learn about, working with diverse communities and vulnerable populations.

Appointments are for a 3 year term, and the PAB meets at least 4 times a year at meetings held in Queens County.  Region of Queens Municipality’s Police Advisory Board is a 7-member board.

Police Advisory Boards are in municipalities policed by the RCMP, and the Board provides civilian governance on issues relating to law enforcement, maintaining law and order, and crime prevention in the municipality. The board provides direction, organization, and policy required to maintain an adequate, effective, and efficient police department, while ensuring that community needs and values are reflected in policing priorities, objectives, goals, programs and strategies.
