Flags at Half Mast: National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

December 6 is National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Flags at the Region of Queens Municipality’s Administration Building and Queens Place Emera Centre are being flown at half mast today in observance of this day which is observed on the anniversary of the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre, in which an armed male student murdered fourteen women and injured fourteen others because they were women. The purpose of the day is to increase awareness and invite change against the violence that occurs to women.
