    ****************************************************************

Feb. 13, 2023, 12:57 p.m.: A Snowfall Warning has been issued by Environment Canada for snowfall expected late this afternoon and overnight Monday evening. Following is the information posted on their website for Queens County:

“Significant snowfall is expected. Total snowfall: 15 to 25 cm. The snow will be wet in nature when it starts. However, as temperatures fall tonight, drier snow and blowing snow over exposed areas can be expected.

The main area of snow is expected to end overnight tonight. However, flurries and strong northerly winds Tuesday morning may give areas of blowing snow and poor visibility during the morning commute.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.

Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.”

  • Public Notice: Please Dispose of Sharps Safely

January 27, 2023: During waste collection this week, a large number of sharps (used needles), were discovered in bags placed curbside for collection.

Region of Queens Municipality has properly disposed of the sharps, and would like to remind residents that there are procedures to follow to safely dispose of sharps. Sharps are not permitted to be placed curbside for disposal. Placing them in regular household waste creates a hazard for other people, pets, and wildlife in terms of safety and as a biohazard.

How to Safely Dispose of Used Sharps:

Once the container is full, it can be returned to the local pharmacy.

    • DO NOT put needles, syringes, or lancets into plastic bottles or jugs,
    • DO NOT put needles, syringes, or lancets in Garbage or recycling bags,
    • DO NOT flush needles, syringes, or lancets down the toilet,
    • DO NOT burn them.
