The Queens Crown Passport is your gateway to exploring Queens County via geocaching.

We invite you to travel throughout the county visiting places you may or may not have been before, picking up caches along the way.

Pick and choose which caches you’d like to find. Looking for traditional caches? We’ve got those. Want to solve a puzzle? There are a few of those too! If multi cachces are your preference, we’ve got three of those for you as well! We’ve even got a letterbox cache!

We have placed 35 caches with varying degrees of difficulty and terrain levels for you to find.

If you find 30 or more geocaches, you’ll be rewarded with a unique trackable geocoin designed especially for this passport. If you find 20-29 caches, you’ll receive a trackable button. See the rules to find out how to claim your reward.

 

The Queens Crown Passport consists of 35 geocaches located throughout the County. All geocaches are officially registered on geocaching.com. Participants will need to be registered on geocaching.com to retrieve the coordinates and other location information. Registration is free.

Each geocache has a code printed on the inside of the cache container’s lid. As you find the geocaches, record the code next to the cache number on you Queens Crown Passport and log the cache on geocaching.com.

There are two levels of rewards:
Level 1: Find 20 of the passport caches to be rewarded with a trackable button.
Level 2: Find 30-34 of the caches to receive a limited edition Queens Crown Passport trackable coin. Find all 35 passport caches and you’ll receive both the trackable button and coin.

To receive your reward, send the completed passport (retain a copy for your records) to the Region of Queens via email, fax, mail or you may stop into the Region of Queens Recreation Office at 249 White Point Road during business hours.

Coins and buttons will be awarded on a first come first serve basis as supplies last. Only one coin or button per cacher name with a valid passport. Once your passport has been validated you will be rewarded with a Queens Crown Passport button or coin.

 

WHAT IS GEOCACHING?
Geocaching is a real world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. Anyone with a GPS device can try to locate a geocache. Whether you’re looking for an epic hike in the wilderness or a stroll in the park, geocaching has something to offer everyone.

WHAT IS USUALLY IN A CACHE?
A cache always contains a log book or logsheet for you to log your find. Larger caches may contain a logbook and any number of items. These items turn the experience into a real treasure hunt. You never know what a the cache owner or visitors to the cache may have left for you to enjoy. Remember, if you take something, leave something of equal or greater value.

GEOCACHING IN 7 SIMPLE STEPS
* Go to www.geocaching.com and register for a free account.
* Click “Hide and Seek” a Cache.
* Enter the GC number.
* Enter or download the coordinates of the geocache into your GPS device or GPS enabled phone.
* Use your GPS device to help you find the hidden geocache.
* Sign the logbook and record the code word in your passport and return the geocache to its original location.
* Share your geocaching stories and photos online or on our Facebook page.

RULES OF GEOCACHING
– If you take something from the cache, leave something of equal or greater value.
– Geocaching should be family friendly.
– Respect local laws and obey posted signs.
– Sign the logbook.
– Log your experience at www.geocaching.com. Be sure to share your adventure on our Facebook page.

What shouldn’t be in the cache?
Please do not put food, illegal substances or dangerous items in a cache.
