June 18, 2019; Liverpool, NS:   Region of Queens Municipality has received a number of inquiries from the public regarding an odour at various times near Bristol Avenue, Liverpool, and Highway #3, Brooklyn. There has been some speculation in the community that the odour is from the Municipal Sewage Treatment facility, located on Hank Snow Drive. The sewage treatment facility is functioning properly and meeting all regulatory effluent requirements. The odour is suspected to be a combination of organic material from the marsh located behind the businesses on the seaward side of Bristol Avenue and Hwy. #3 to Brooklyn,  tidal lagoon, and sewage treatment facility.  Prevailing winds direction generally dissipates odour, however certain wind direction and humidity levels can result in noticeable levels.  Region of Queens Municipality is operating the plant at maximum level to reduce any odour generation.
