This past week has been one to be remembered.
I was pleased to provide two speeches at the World Junior Curling Championships, and also pass out some keeper awards to the curlers. The exceptional quality of curling by the teams was evident. Congratulations to the medal winners, as well as all participating teams from around the world.
Not only did we experience exciting world junior curling draws, but we also had an opportunity to make connections with guests from across the Province, Canada, and the Globe.
During the week a large number of fans attended the Event, and our residents and businesses provided strong support and hospitality. Major sponsors included the Government of Canada, Province of Nova Scotia, J and W Murphy Foundation and Region of Queens Municipality.
The World Curling Federation took a leap of faith that a small community such as Liverpool, Nova Scotia could successfully host a world class event, and we did. Support was received from all communities throughout Region of Queens Municipality.
We owe a huge gratitude for the vision and hard work of the dedicated volunteers of the Liverpool Championship Host Society in their bid to host the 2019 World Juniors. They and nearly 200 volunteers helped to successfully put Liverpool and Queens on the world stage. Our large number of volunteers allow Queens to showcase major Events.
I was told by Kate Caithness, the President of the World Curling Federation as well as other dignitaries attending, that everyone was pleased with the organization and professionalism of the World Junior Curling Championships, and that Queens Place Emera Centre and the quality of ice were exceptional. Visitors embraced our local hospitality, were very impressed with all of the citizens they encountered, and were happy to share their pleasurable experiences. Queens has worked hard to earn its great reputation.
There was a large visitation throughout our communities, as scheduling time actually permitted visitors to take in our local cuisine, shops, and natural beauty. Local accommodation providers were smiling. All visitors were impressed with Queens and our quality of life.
Each and every one of our residents, businesses and staff of Region of Queens Municipality are ambassadors of Queens, who strive to provide and receive this level of satisfaction from visitors who grace our doorstep.
I personally wanted to take the time to thank all of you for your extra effort to allow Queens to provide a very successful World Junior Curling Championships Event.
Please be proud of this wonderful collaborative accomplishment, as I am certainly very proud of you.
Mayor David Dagley
