Part-Time Fitness Centre Attendant (6 Month Term)

The Region of Queens Municipality is seeking applications from well-organized, reliable and self-motivated individuals to join our team as a Part-Time Fitness Centre Attendant at Queens Place Emera Centre, for hire on a 20 hr/week minimum. Job will be on a 6-month term with the possibility of extension.

Required competencies:

• Passion for Health & Fitness
• Customer Service
• Communication
• Flexibility
• CanFitPro or Nova Scotia Fitness Association certification(s) an asset, but not necessary

Work expectations:

1. Balance the demands of facility users as well as provide excellent customer service.
2. Possess strong communication skills and will be health and wellness focused.
3. Ability to coach and advise all users and user groups of Queens Place Emera Centre.
4. Willing to obtain First-Aid, CPR and WHMIS. Maintaining up-to-date certification is required over the term of employment.
5. Mandatory agreement to annual Criminal Records and Child Abuse Registry Checks.
6. Agreement to flexible scheduling on an as needed basis
7. Able to work well within a team environment

Manager, North Queens Aquatic Centre
In collaboration with the Queens Place Emera Centre Program Coordinator, the Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the North Queens Aquatic Centre in Caledonia, including staffing, financial reporting and controls, promotions, maintenance, and staff and program evaluation. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, team building, management, and supervisory skills and be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, with a good knowledge of pool maintenance. The position requires a certified Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI), and National Lifeguard Certification (NLS). Preference will be given to applicants with Royal Lifesaving Society of Canada Instructor certification (LSI), which enables teaching Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross courses as part of their duties, and certification as an aqua fitness instructor is an asset. While the posting formally begins in mid-June, the Manager will be asked to work part-time prior to this to help with pool startup and will conclude in late August.

Water Safety Instructors, North Queens Aquatic Centre (2 positions available)
Water Safety Instructors at the North Queens Aquatic Centre are responsible for the ongoing instruction and supervision of pool programs as well as lifeguarding at public swims and pool parties. Instructors must have good teaching and leadership skills, a good rapport with children and the public, and must be prepared to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. The position requires a minimum of Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification (WSI) and National Lifeguard Certification (NLS), and preference will be given to applicants with Royal Lifesaving Society of Canada Instructor certification (LSI), which enables teaching Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross courses, as part of their duties. Certification as an aqua fitness instructor and a working knowledge of pool maintenance are both assets. These positions (2) will begin in late June and conclude in late August.
