The Region of Queens Municipality is a scenic community of 11,000 people located on the South Shore of Nova Scotia.  With excellent health care and educational facilities, a thriving arts, culture, and theatre community, numerous indoor and outdoor recreational options, and a burgeoning entrepreneurial sector, Queens offers a quality of life that is second to none.

The Strategic Priorities of the Council of the Region of Queens Municipality are:

  • To grow the population and economy
  • To deliver desired municipal services
  • To govern to best practices

The Region is seeking an experienced municipal leader to assume the challenging role of Chief Administrative Officer.

What qualities are needed as CAO?

To begin, you must be a strong and decisive leader with a solid understanding of all aspects of municipal administration.  You possess academic credentials and a solid track record building consensus and cooperation among elected officials, provincial government, employees, citizens, neighbouring municipalities, and key stakeholders.

As the main interface with Council, and council’s only employee, you are well informed of governance practices in a political setting.  Under their strategic direction, you will provide sound leadership in developing and implementing policies and programs that meet the needs of residents and other stakeholders.

A strong leader of people, you are able to establish clear performance objectives and provide overall direction to senior staff to help them achieve their goals.  You provide advice to council for solutions.  You are familiar with the issues and challenges facing rural municipalities and understand best practices in economic development, financial, administrative, operations, human resources and governance.

Your style is open, you listen well, and you embrace the vision that everyone has a voice in the future of Queens.  Personally, you are comfortable with high-profile, controversial files and you handle these situations with poise, confidence, and most important, integrity.

A detailed position description is available upon request.

If this is you, please forward your resume and a letter explaining clearly how your background and experience will meet the needs of the Region of Queens Municipality.  Applications can be emailed to Shelley Connolly, Executive Secretary at This email address is being protected from spambots.
