Public Works FAQ

Q: Why do I have low water pressure?

A: Low water pressure can be the result of many things. Before you call, ask yourself these questions:

Is my water filter dirty?

Do I have an open valve? (Usually outside)

Do I have normal pressure at my outside tap?

If after checking these things, you still have low pressure, call our business office at 354-3455.

Q: What do I do if my sewer is plugged?

A: As a home owner/landlord you are responsible for the section that runs from your house to the property line. When you call our office, we will need to know the mame of the plumber that verified the location of the blockage. When you have this information, call our business office at 354-3455.

Q: It's after hours or the weekend and I have an emergency. How do I contact you?

A: Our after hours pager number is 1-902-558-6112. Please leave a clear and precise message and your call will be returned ASAP.

Q: The street in front of my house is flooded. What can I do?

A: Plugged catch basins are the most frequent cause of this problem. As a resident and home owner, you can greatly assist us in keeping this under control by not raking leaves, grass or small branches onto the street where rain water will force it into the drain and cause blockages. The same thing happens with snow and ice. If a plug does occur, please call our office at 354-3455.

Q: When do winter parking bans take effect and what should I do during a storm?

A: The winter parking ban takes effect from November 27 to April 20. Leaving your vehicle on the street during this period may result in a fine, or in some cases having your vehicle towed away at your expense. It is important to note that the use of snow plows, salt trucks and sidewalk plows are severely limited by cars, trucks and even compost carts being parked or placed where we have to plow. Service and response can be greatly improved by making sure your vehicle is off the street or sidewalk druing a storm and until all clearing efforts are complete.

Q: Who do I call when the street light is burnt out?

A: The replacement of street lamps is the responsibility of Nova Scotia Power. They can be contacted at 1-800-428-6230. It is also requested that you advise our office as well.
