We all want to live in a community where we can feel comfortable and safe. One way to help achieve this is through effective land use planning. Planning has been defined as: "a process of protecting and improving the living, production and recreational environments of a community through proper use and development of land".

Land use planning asks the important question; how do we want development to occur over the next 5, 10, 15 or 20 years? In addressing this question, planning seeks to provide a framework for future growth and development in our communities.
