Nova Scotia Paint Recycling Program
Residents who have left over household paint and paint aerosols may return these to their local Enviro Depot. This program was established in June 2002 and is managed by RRFB Nova Scotia.

Safe Sharps Bring-Back Program
Used sharps (syringes, needles, and lancets) can be harmful if they are not handled properly. The "Safe Sharps Bring Back Program" program provides a safe way to dispose of syringes, needles, and lancets. Sharps users are asked to pick up a sharps container from their local pharmacy. They can then place their used syringes, needles, and lancets into the sharps container. When filled this container can be returned to their local pharmacy for proper disposal.
For additional information residents can contact the Pharmacy Association of Nova Scotia at (902) 422-9583, their community pharmacy, the Canadian Diabetes Association or a local Diabetes Education Centre.
Used Motor Oil
This can be taken to your local service station. Retailers who sell motor oil are required by Provincial Regulation to provide an option for the public to return their used oil or notify them of a location within a reasonable distance of their point of sale.
Expired Marine Flares Disposal Program
Marine flares, otherwise known as “ pyrotechnic distress signals” form part of the required safety equipment of many vessels. However many boaters are unaware that improper disposal of flares can be hazardous.
This program allows boaters to properly dispose of these materials by dropping them off at their nearest RCMP detachment or Canadian Coast Guard Base. For additional information boaters can contact the Canadian Coast Guard, office of Boating Safety (Dartmouth) at 1-888-670-0771.
Nova Scotia Material Exchange
The Nova Scotia Material Exchange can be considered an on line market place to buy, sell, trade or donate usable material that would otherwise end up in our landfills.
This is a web-based "database" where individuals and business cans search for needed material or list their surplus items. Listing on this service is free of charge.
Ethylene Glycol – Antifreeze
This can be returned to your local service station for recycling. Not all service stations are equipped to accept this and resident should call ahead. This is a banned material under Provincial Regulations.
Old or Un-wanted Ammunition & Fire Works
The Queens County detachment of the R.C.M.P. has agreed to accept ammunition and fireworks for disposal. This service is FREE. It is recommended that when dealing with these items, that extreme care be taken. Remember, these are explosives and if handled in an abusive manor, can cause serious and sometimes fatal injuries.
