There are 7 electoral districts within the Region of Queens.  While each Councillor is elected to represent a particular district, all Councillors and the Mayor work for the betterment of the Municipality as a whole.  The 7th Council of the Region of Queens Municipality was sworn in on October 29, 2020.

Mayor Norman served as a Councillor between the years of 2000 until 2016,and has returned for the 2020 to 2024 term as Mayor of Region of Queens Municipality. Her employment past has included management, education and marketing.  The mother of two grown and independent children, Mayor Norman resides in the community of Hunts Point.  She takes great interest in those she meets and believes that questioning and listening to others goes a long way.  

Often, our residents have innovative and interesting ideas on how to make the community better, or may have questions, or concerns. Returning for his second term on Council, Councillor Muise was elected to the role of Deputy Mayor for the first two years of Council’s mandate.  Deputy Mayor Muise worked 32 years at Bowater Mersey Paper Company Ltd., and retired when it shut down.  He worked five years fishing, retired again, and decided to run for Council in 2016.  He liked working with his community and offered again in 2020.  His hobbies include operating his sawmill, which is a great stress relief, and also enjoys car shows and rebuilding vehicles.

Councillor Gidney is serving his first term on Council. He is married to his best friend Barb, father to two sons Nicholas and Jonathan (Alicia), and grandfather to Adelynn and Nolan.  He and his family moved to Liverpool in 2000 to enjoy the peaceful, tranquil beauty of Queens County.  In January 2014, he retired from Canada Revenue Agency, and currently works part time at Chandlers Funeral Home. Councillor Gidney is an athletics coach with Special Olympics, and was previously a director/treasurer on the Board of Directors of Lunenburg Queens Special Olympics.  He is a volunteer at Queens Manor with the Happy Wheelers and Mens’ groups, and previously was Vice Chair of Queens Manor Board of Directors.  Councillor Gidney was a director/treasurer on the Board of Liverpool Championship Host Society, and is a Master Mason at Prince of Wales Lodge #29.

Councillor Charlton was elected in 2020 to her first term of Council at the age of 29, the youngest member who has sat on Region of Queens Municipality’s Council.  She grew up in Queens County, and now Maddie and her husband Owen live in District 3 with their three children.  Her interest in Council sparked from her business experience, community involvement and raising her own family here. She has been active in the community for many years by working with various groups such as, Planning Advisory Committee, Queens Day Care Association, and the Hospital Hustle. She became an entrepreneur at the age of 21, and still owns and operates her business today. Councillor Charlton is passionate about her community and is excited to connect with residents and work together for a brighter future for Queens.

Councillor Amirault is serving her first term on Council.  She is the mother of two, and has lived her entire life in Liverpool.  She and her husband Stephen own and operate Queens Furniture.  In her spare time, she enjoys diamond art, fishing, hunting, gardening, and most outdoor activities while spending time with family and friends.  This is a new challenge for Councillor Amirault, and she looks forward to working with Mayor Norman, the other Councillors and the residents of District 4.

Councillor Fancy has returned for his third term on Council, having first been elected in District 5 in 2012.  He is married to Andrea, and has an adult son Simeon, who is working as a Recreation Coordinator for a seniors’ facility in the Valley.  For 35 years, he was employed by Bowater Mersey Paper Company Limited as a Power Engineer, and during that time, served in various capacities, such as Shift Supervisor.  Now in retirement, Councillor Fancy feels it has been, and continues to be, a great honour to serve the constituents of Milton, Old Falls Road, and Bristol Avenue.

Councillor Brown is a first term Councillor, born and raised in Queens County, and has lived in five of the seven districts. A lifelong resident of Queens, he spent a short time travelling to school in Dartmouth. In his youth, he was a lifeguard at Milton Centennial Pool, and as an adult worked at Mersey Lodge then at Bowater Mersey Paper Company Ltd. for 30 years. An early retirement when the mill closed allowed a move to his summer home in Labelle, and time spent on hobbies such as writing, photography, geocaching and hiking. Councillor Brown served seven years on the Privateer Days Commission and five years as a director on the Greater Molega Lake Lot Owners Association. He looks forward to serving the people of the District 6, and the county.

Councillor Hawkes is serving his first term on Council.  He worked at Resolute Paper for 31 years, and Dayspring Electric for 7 years.  He has lived in North Queens all of his life and is the father of three children, and proud grandfather of 6 grandchildren.  Councillor Hawkes is often found on his woodlot, and also enjoys woodworking and classic cars.
